Stephen G. Schwartz, MD, MBA is Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He has served as Medical Director at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at Naples since its opening in 2004. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon, specializing in diseases and surgery of the vitreous, retina, and macula, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, and related disorders. Previously, he served as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Residency Program Director at Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia Campus.

He is a Past President of the Florida Society of Ophthalmology and serves on the Boards of Lighthouse of Collier and Prevent Blindness Florida. He has been listed as a Castle Connolly/Gulfshore Life “Top Doctor” for the past five consecutive years and is a recipient of an Investigator Award from Prevent Blindness America, an Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Outstanding Young Ophthalmologist Leadership Award from the Florida Society of Ophthalmology, a Chairman’s Award from Prevent Blindness Florida, and an Honor Award from the American Society of Retina Specialists.

Dr. Schwartz is a graduate of Cornell University, New York University School of Medicine, and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He completed residency training at New York University and fellowship training at Baylor College of Medicine. He is a graduate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Leadership Development Program. He lives in Naples with his wife, Melanie, and their four children.
